5 Street Food Tips for Safely Savoring the Flavors of Uganda
Uganda might not be among the
famous food destinations in Africa, however it is one of the culinary
destinations that can handle diets for many travelers who focus on avoiding
hunger but not much on the taste of the food. The food is always starchy and bland,
but there are some exciting foods that can be found on the streets during a safari in Uganda around most of the
villages. These street foods are often served in bags like polythene bags and
bags made from scrap printer paper. What makes it interesting when using this
scrap printer is that, you may sometimes get good writings on the paper that is
used for serving you like village meetings, local news as you eat your food?
Not to forget where you bought the food from, these stalls have amazing names
and slogans.
As you enjoy your street food in Uganda here are some tips that
can help you have the best way of savoring the flavors of the pearl of Africa.
Eat when it is hot
Eat the food when it is in the
right temperature, this is the best way to reduce the chances of getting sick or
food poisoning. Remember the foods that are served when cold are always hard to
trust and be sure about. If there is a possibility of you seeing the food
cooking in the hot pan or over the grill then that is the best food you
shouldn’t be scared of eating. This is safe because the food will be in high
temperatures which can generally kill the harmful bacteria. Enjoy your hot
foods like beef, pork, and chapatti among others as you explore the corners of the
country and the interesting gems on your Uganda
safari.
Watch out for water
On any Uganda safari tour, whether to see the gorillas in Bwindi impenetrable forest national park or a city tour in Kampala, make sure you don’t temper with the tap water,
it is not safe to take it for drinking because it can real cause sickness. Note
that some of the ice vendors or the services hawkers may also use this same
water for making the ice so be on alter. It is best to ask or check before
taking a taste of the ice or give it a miss to be on a safer side.
Make your own choice of food
It is best for one to make your own
choice of the food, as you venture into Uganda’s beauties. These street vendors
sell different foods like fruits, roasted meat, bottled drinking water, snacks,
among others so it’s better for a traveler to make his/her choice that will
favor the body. But it’s more advisable to enjoy cooked meals from any vendor
because it’s always hot.
Follow the locals
Don’t be on a rush to buy the food
but be so sensitive by following where the locals buy from. After all even the
locals, get sick if they also buy bad food but they are more likely to avoid
vendors that have less stellar reputation. Join and buy from the stall who
always has a long queue of people who look like they know of what they are
doing, definitely you will get the best taste out of it.
Offer yourself time to adjust
Travelling for long distances
either on road or on air takes a toll on the body, especially if the food
you’re eating is unfamiliar and the digestive system is adjusting. It is you to
determine whether the food is good for your body or not. Give the body the time
to adjust at least after one to two days you will definitely enjoy it like any
other local person.
Food poisoning shouldn’t ruin your
holiday in Uganda, this tips can help reduce the risk of getting sick on your
well-earned break, but don’t hesitate to make sure you don’t forget the travel
insurance.
