WAYS TO ENJOY A SAFARI OUTSIDE THE 4X4 WHEEL VEHICLE
A safari in Africa is a unique experience that creates lifelong memories. Nevertheless, there are some activities that
elevate the safari experience with overwhelming adventures that dive into the
real African setting.
Nothing creates formidable joy like watching the big five in
their natural habitats, waking up to the cry of an eagle, only to watch the
golden sunrise is simply an awesome start that could easily brighten up your whole
day.
But probably when one mentions of an African safari, whether
to the Okavango Delta of Botswana or Murchison Falls national park in Uganda,
all tourists immediately think of sitting in a jeep with a pop up roof and
driving through the wander lands of Africa basing on the wildlife images etched
into their brains from several documentaries.
However, this is not the case, yes watching the wildlife in
a 4X4 wheel vehicle offers amazing experiences, but how about having up close
encounters with nature in the wild on foot? Maybe watching the beautiful
scenery while canoeing on some the small fresh water lakes? Or maybe a
sundowner cruise on the Kazinga channel in Queen Elizabeth national park? There
is simply a lot that anyone can do outside the 4x4 wheel vehicle.
Gorilla trekking. This is the most exclusive activity any
traveler can ever do on any African safari. Unfortunately, only three countries
of Uganda, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo are the homes to these
mountain gorillas, with the primes as Bwindi impenetrable forest national park,
Volcanoes national park and Virunga national park respectively. Gorilla
trekking involves walking into the jungle in search of the mighty apes in their
natural setting. On encountering them, spend a magical hour with the gorillas,
watching them conduct their daily lives, spot the juveniles play from one tree
branch to another and also the silverbacks watch over their families. The
experience is simply worth every step.
Safari walking. This is a walk amidst the wild, off the cosy
4x4 wheel vehicle. Get the chance to explore nature on foot and spot even the
slightest insights of nature and absorb in the wonders of the African forest.
Safari walking in Lake Mburo national park allows travelers to wander in the
African jungle without any confines of the vehicle. Get real up close wildlife
encounters with the zebras, topis, warthogs, giraffes, monkeys and so many
others. If you ever want to experience Africa outside that pop up vehicle, then
go for a walking safari to walk through the sane trails as the animals.
Nature walks. The only difference here with the walking
safari is that nature walks rarely expose trotters to the wild animals in the
wander land. Nature walk trails usually go through areas where animal don’t
usually pass, however this cannot stop the overwhelming experience that it
offers. Imagine of walking through a thick forest, with unclear trails, having
to pave your way out with a walking stick and dodging the thorny trees all the
time is something not for everyone. Nature walks expose the trekkers to
different tree species, insects, butterflies and birds. Lucky trotters get to
spot some wild animals, though this is not so common.
Launch cruise. This could be on a river, like an afternoon
launch cruise towards the Devil’s cauldron on Murchison falls; probably the
world’s most powerful waterfalls. Perhaps a cruise on Kazinga channel, the
world’s longest channel that joins Lake George and Lake Edward in south western
Uganda. One unique feature about launch cruises in Africa, it’s that travelers
immediately get connected to the beautiful nature the moment they bump into the
cruise boat. It is right to say that no tourist ever goes for a cruise and
never spots the sea bird species and the aquatic animal species like crocodiles
and hippos in shallow ends of the water body.
So don’t be discouraged by the 4x4 wheel vehicle, the fact
that you have been traveling in cars all the time, this could be the perfect
chance to explore the wonders of nature off the vehicle.
Travelers can still do Horseback riding, biking and cycling,
canoeing and perhaps hiking. These are all ways of enjoying a safari outside a
car, it’s not only game drives that thrill the experience but also other simple
activities done outside the vehicle.
