HIKING MOUNTAIN BISOKE
In a market where there is variety and all products with
good quality implies stiff competition, sometimes you even get confused and
fail to pick the best product that you would love to take. Likewise to Rwanda,
it is a land of a thousand hills and when it comes to hiking safaris in Rwanda, you might get confused on which one to
hike due to the many magnificent mountains in the country. Each mountain you
bump into is simply beautiful to behold leaving you with a million thoughts
wondering how the experience of hiking to its top would be. Indeed, all mountains in Rwanda are good to go, the
experience is worth the hike. The Nyiragongo, Karisimbi,
Huye, Nyamulagira, Sabinyo, Mgahinga and Bisoke mountains clearly explain why
Rwanda is the land of a thousand hills.
Hiking mountain Bisoke has been undoubtedly ranked the best
for hiking safaris in Rwanda.
In any case, if in Rwanda, don’t miss it out. An
extinct volcano in the Virunga Mountains of the Albertine Rift in the western
branch of the East African Rift is located on the border of Rwanda and the
Democratic Republic of Congo though its summit is in Rwanda standing at 3,711
meters.
The adventure on mountain Bisoke is one of the most
memorable activities you can ever do on your safaris in Rwanda. At the top of this mountain is the largest and
most spectacular Crater Lake in the nation. Hiking the full top of mountain
Bisoke is a wonderful adventure that even the non-experienced hikers can do in
just a day. Just like all other activities in Volcanoes National Park, also the Hiking Day starts at the park
headquarters of Kinigi at 7.00am and at around 8.00am, you set off for the hike
led by a ranger who has a wealth of experience in hiking adventures at Bisoke Mountain.
The starting point of the trek is roughly a 40 minutes’
drive from the park headquarters on a very bumpy road. Porters to help you
carry your luggage as you hike are available right at the starting point such
that you don’t feel anything uncomfortable while on your hike. Before the start
of the hike, the ranger gives you a nicely crafted hiking stick because moving
through the very steep and very muddy terrain requires you all the support you
can even if from a stick.
As you ascend up, if you are lucky enough you could
encounter some gorillas and given a minute to view them while in your hiking
trail though pictures are limited. You continue with your trek as you are
treated with an array of different species of trees & flowery shrubs and
sweet bird songs as you dodge the thorny plants that itch.
You eventually reach the top of the mountain, and the view
is incredibly unbelievable. It is one that can never disappoint you. The Crater
Lake is so prepossessing covered with a large cloud cover that makes the temperatures
here relatively high. Definitely,
mountain Bisoke is worth climbing especially if you wish for a physical break
from the regular tourists. Even just an evening spent in the foothills of this
amazing volcano is well worth the drive. Come now.
